The heat pushed Hally Jolivette to the limit of bloom and beyond but look how this Prunus has grown in one year. The first picture was takin in April ‘08 and the subsequent picture just this week.DSC_0024   Usually this shrub blooms over a long period of time and it is still blooming but time will tell how long after record temperatures last weekend and through the beginning of the week.  This is a shrub well worth planting in the garden.  It’s proper name is Prunus x ‘Hally Jolivette’ and a bit of yearly pruning will keep it neat and tidy. DSC_0025 It is hardy to zone 5 and according to Michael Dirr’s “Manual of Woody Plants’, it is a cross between Prunus subhirtella x P. x yedoensis crossed back on P. subhirtella by Dr. Karl Sax of the Arnold Aroboretum.DSC_0028   That is a lot of x’s and it is a triple excellent plant for the border. DSC_0029 The first grandchild, Little Miss Hailey, visited and had her first garden tour this week.  I do see her quite often but I beg your indulgence as I show you her 7 week old reaction to the garden.  DSC_0012 What is better than that!  DSC_0033 Tucker is a bit jealous and demands equal time. Can you tell he is sulking?
