Did’ja Know?
Submitted by My Garden Spot Blog
Did y’all know that if you planted amaryllis bulbs in the ground, on the Gulf Coast of Texas, they thrive? Did y’all know, that y’all can then count on the original bulbs to multiply, but you really should divide them once in a while?
And did y’all know that if you DON’T divide them for three years, and pretty much ignore them, they might stop blooming because they’re a little….crowded.
And then, the bulbs start growing.
And growing.
And growing.
How large?
They get really big.
They can be the size of cantaloupes.
And some of them get to be the size of honeydew melons.
I took the ones I dug up home and am going to find some place for them. Dunno where, yet, but somewhere!
I left the honeydew melon sized one in the ground. This next weekend, while I’m down there for Easter, I’ll try to divide the clump a little more so that next year, they’ll bloom again.
You know, if you can buy one, tangerine/orange sized amaryllis bulb for about $10 to $15 dollars, can you even imagine what one that was the size of a honeydew would bring?
