Gettin’ Stuff

I am a sucker for a sale. However, knowing this as I do, I do try to do a little research before I am sucked under. It is not always a successful attempt, but I do make one. Really.

I also know myself well enough to know that when I start looking at something I think I might want to buy, if I keep going BACK to that item again and again, I will probably talk myself into getting that item. I am very persuasive. I know all my buttons, you see, and I push them.

And so, I ended up getting my netbook from Office Depot, and I had them load it with Microsoft Office and all is well. It is a 1G and 160 hard drive machine, and at that, it means that it has the same working memory as the (alas) mortally wounded laptop, and 60 more Gigs in the hard drive.

One of the gents at Office Depot, who did a mighty effort to fix the hard drive enough to get my pictures off, has suggested one more option, getting a hard drive enclosure, putting the lap top’s hard drive in it, and slaving it to another computer, scanning each file we take off (pictures mostly) for any virus programs. The enclosure will cost about $40, and Office Depot didn’t charge me anything for trying to fix the laptop yet, and the young man promised to help me try to transfer the photos to an accessible drive. (Have I mentioned, recently, that I think Office Depot is my newest favorite company right now?)

I can buy a new hard drive for the lap top for about $100, and we’ll probably end up doing that so that we’ll have it functional as well.

But, as God is my Witness, I am never losing photos again, which is why I’m also getting one of THESE. I am now going to be the back up Queen of the Universe.
