Gardening - It Takes a Family

By admin | October 9, 2008

As I was driving home today, I saw a family on their lawn doing the fall cleanup. Over the years, I’ve realized that one of the best activities for young children is to help their moms and dads with the garden. It teaches them about the environment and it’s something they could easily do themselves with a little adult supervision. Am I trying to turn you into the Brady’s? No, but it’s much better than IPOD and video game addiction.

For families in the Northern part of the United States or in 4 season climates, pick a weekend in May and use this weekend as a weekend each year as family day. For trees and perennials, plants can be looked at for years in the future to bring back memories.

Make it a nature weekend. Use a half day on a Saturday for the garden. Then you can take a walk in the park, woods or a walk on the beach and just enjoy the nature. It’s a great way to bond a familiy and in the end, you’ll be better for it.
